A Showcase of Mindanao Festivals

 The Career Institute of Southeast Asia (CAISA) owned and managed by the Joji Ilagan Career Center Foundation, Inc. (JIB) recently held its annual Global Skills coined as CAISA Global Skills 2018, with the theme: “A Showcase of Mindanaoan Festivals” at IChef Compound, S. De Jesus St., Davao City.

The events aimed to employ the students’ theoretical knowledge acquired in their classes through various competitions in the field of tourism, hospitality and culinary by showcasing their impressive talents and skills as globally competitive individuals.

The opening ceremony was graced by the school’s industry partners: Mr. Vincent Estapon, JIB Alumnus; Mr. Marciano Tapiador, Entrepreneur & Food Enthusiast; Mr. Romy Garcia, Owner of Bali-Bali Resort; Chef Benedicto Bernardo, Executive Chef of Apo View Hotel; Mr. Roehl Magnaye, President of 1618 Enterprise Corporation; Ms. Nicole Nina Hao-Bian, JIB VP for Education Development; Ms. Anna Marie Fanlo Candari, Owner of Annmari Bags;  Ms. Phoebejell Marie Cedilla-Cansino, Operations Manager of Boxed Up & Saging Repablik; Chef Quennie Gonzaga, Entrepreneur and Ms. Jonna Kathryn Pasion-Buenafe CAISA OIC, School Director. Chef Benedicto Bernardo, Executive Chef of Apo View Hotel also gave an inspirational message to the students.

Various competitions that showcase the students’ skills were held such as Grand Lobby Centerpiece, showcasing a touch of the festivals that each teams represent namely: Zamboanga Peninsula, Northern Mindanao, SoCCSKSarGen, and Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM); Table Set-up for 2; Cupcake Decorating; Art of Plating, in which the participant must create a plated dish incorporating the theme of the event; Fruit and Vegetable Decoration, the art of creating designs and concepts through the arrangement of fruits and vegetables;  Tour Guiding, a competition in the art of guiding tourists in destinations; Synchronized Table Napkin Folding, a timed competition in the art of folding napkins with different designs and styles; Freaky Shake; Race for Service (Waiter’s Relay), the competition in the art of bussing in and out of served drinks; Serve Up til You Drop (Last Man Standing), which allows the participants to exhibit creativity and showmanship in serving; Bar Duo, a cocktail mixing with flairtending competition and; Photourism, depicting different tourist Mindanaoan destinations as a background.

The execution of the event demonstrates how well-rounded the students of CAISA are and how well the teachers have molded the students to be great competitors, not just in the competition, but also in the future as global hospitality leaders.
