World Tourism Day 2018

JIB

World Tourism Day is held annually on the 27th of September. Its purpose is to cultivate the wakefulness among the intercontinental community of the value of tourism and its social, cultural, political and economic value. The event seeks to take in hand global challenges outlined in the United Nations Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) and to draw attention to the contribution the tourism sector can make in reaching these goals. Each year has a particular theme. With the digital advances for sustainable tourism nowadays, the World Tourism Organization established the theme “Tourism and the Digital Transformation”, to help individuals explore tourism opportunities through technological advances.

JIB celebrates the World Tourism Day on September 27-28, 2018 integrating digital media to its various event categories organized by JIB’s Tourism Student Organization—Voluptuaria, headed by Ms. Jera Longakit, Tourism Faculty.

Volupturia launched the celebration with a blast through its Digital Exhibit, letting the JIB students experience endless innovations in the digital world with Virtual Reality (VR), featuring Aurora Borealis and the Northern Lights and the Augmented Reality (AR) which gave them the opportunity to see famous artifacts and architectures across the globe.

On September 27, 2018, the tourism students of JIB-CBT from different year levels have enjoyed and showed their intellect and innovative skills to different competitions such as Quiz Bee that tested the general knowledge of the students about Tourism, Charades of Countries, Tourobotics, Collage Making by creating 3-dimensional Art, Jazz Chant, Extemporaneous Speaking, Research Presentation, Digital Essay, 60-seconder Videos, and School Promotion.

The morning of the second day of the celebration, September 28, 2018, was filled with fresh and new knowledge, as Ms. Lovely June Gacho, Program Coordinator of Six Eleven Global Services, gave insightful talk on the importance of using social media tools in the tourism industry. The travel blogger and tourism advocate, Mr. Olan Fernandez, also known for the “The Travel Teller” blog, enthusiastically gave a motivational talk on using social media to promote travel destinations in the Philippines. In the afternoon, the JIBCBT tourism students competed once again to various events such as Marketing Pitch, Mobile App, Neo Ethnic Dance where they cordially performed well, Research Presentation, MTV Spoof, and the most anticipated clash of beauty and brains—the Mr. and Ms. Tourism 2018,where the JIB-CBT student candidates have indeed proven that they are not just the beauties and poise but also with brain and talents.

It was indeed a successful celebration of World Tourism Day with the help and cooperation of the Joji Ilagan International Schools Administration, Faculty and Staff and most especially the students. Everyone is looking forward for next year’s merriment and hoping for another fun and exciting World Tourism Day celebration.
